This wiki was created as a reference, to identify artists across the nine counties of the Bay Area (from San Jose to Santa Rosa) but also to track some of the activity by these artists beyond the region. While this may be a useful reference — especially for visitors to the region — it’s also an argument, for anyone who thinks “all the artists have left.” Artists are tagged with city and medium, and entries cover a brief bio, exhibitions, links to a few artworks, and each artist’s website at the top.

Artists are invited to locate, claim and update their own page. Artists know their own practice better than anyone, and this wiki is intended to offer access and control to the people who are its subject. See the “claim” link at the bottom of each page to begin the process of requesting access. Once approved, you’ll be able to log in and freely make changes and additions to your entry at any time. Artists may choose to share their login with galleries, or other agents, but we only offer access directly to artists and/or their estate. PLEASE NOTE no corrections (however minor) will be made by wiki admin. Are you an artist included the wiki? Click here to register.
Most of the artists included here are involved in what one might describe as an interdisciplinary practice, which makes the medium tags reductive at best, and restrictive at worst. As being an artist in the Bay Area is increasingly a exceptional occupation, it’s not uncommon to see hybridity and even phases of an individuals practice that can’t be accounted for in these tags. They’re offered here as a reference, for research purposes.
