Graham Woo Holoch was born in 1991 in San Francisco, the eldest of three brothers, to a mother who immigrated from Hong Kong and a father of German heritage. He attended California College of the Arts in Oakland, where he earned a BFA in Photography in 2014. While at CCA, he co-founded Eggy Press, an artist-run publishing collective that grew into a significant platform for Bay Area independent publishing. He later earned an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley in 2021.
Holoch has remained rooted in San Francisco throughout his career, working across multiple creative disciplines. For three years, he served as lead photographer for KQED’s documentary art series The Hustle, which examined how Bay Area artists navigate financial precarity; the series won the Edward R. Murrow Award for Social Media Campaign in 2019. He has also worked as Associate Manager of Fine Art Editioning at Gallery 16 in San Francisco. In April 2024, he reopened The Last Straw, a 200-square-foot gallery and project space on Irving Street in the Outer Sunset, where he continues to curate and exhibit work.
Holoch’s practice is multidisciplinary and process-driven, moving across photography, printmaking, drawing, and poetry. His photographic work uses humor and wit to capture both the intensities and mundanities of everyday life, often exploring themes of personal transformation, daily routine, and the body in relation to the natural world. His photographs tend toward a quiet, observational quality — still lifes and informal portraits that invite viewers to look inward and out, with subjects absorbing their surroundings.
As a curator, Holoch’s vision centers on finding “beauty in the mundane,” a sensibility that shapes both his own art and the programming at The Last Straw. His publishing work through Eggy Press extends this ethos into artist books, limited-edition prints, and collaborative objects, creating a distributed platform for his Bay Area creative community.
